When the time came to carry that work forward, the owner of Ruth Allen & Associates entrusted the future of the practice to Heidi Smith, a decision grounded in shared values, professional respect, and confidence in her care.
Smith Electrology is honored to continue this legacy.
While the name has evolved, the foundation remains the same: thoughtful treatment, honest guidance, and lasting results. Every client is welcomed into a calm, professional, and deeply respectful space, because permanent hair removal is personal, and trust matters.

Know Heidi
Heidi is the owner of Smith Electrology and a licensed electrologist. When she took over the practice formerly known as Ruth Allen & Associates, she carried forward its longstanding commitment to thoughtful treatment, honest guidance, and respect for every patient.
During her time providing treatments, Heidi became known for her warmth, reassuring presence, and commitment to helping patients feel informed and comfortable.
Heidi has now stepped away from providing treatments and remains the owner of Smith Electrology. Patient care is provided by the licensed independent electrologists introduced on this page.
Her own experience with unwanted hair continues to shape what she wants this practice to offer: a welcoming place where patients feel understood and supported.

Carley Lester
Licensed Electrologist
Carley Lester is a passionate, licensed Electrologist with a commitment to providing safe, effective, and personalized permanent hair removal. Trained in all three modalities of electrolysis, thermolysis, galvanic, and blend, she provides customized treatments for all skin tones, hair types, and areas of the body.
Carley also offers electrolysis for gender-affirming care, including pre-surgical hair removal, and is proud to provide a welcoming, respectful, and trans-friendly treatment environment. Her approach combines technical expertise with compassionate care, helping every client feel comfortable, confident, and supported throughout their electrolysis journey. Carley is currently accepting new clients.
Kathryn Huyck
Licensed Electrologist
Kathryn is a Maryland-licensed electrologist who completed her training at the Maryland Electrolysis Education Center in Laurel. She has experience treating all skin and hair types and is skilled in all three modalities of electrolysis: thermolysis, galvanic, and blend.
Her approach centers on client comfort and personalized care. She takes time to understand each client’s goals and develops a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs. Clients appreciate her thoughtful attention to their comfort throughout treatment.
For Kathryn, the most rewarding part of her work is seeing the confidence that grows as clients progress toward their hair removal goals. She values the opportunity to help people feel more comfortable in their own skin.

What Sets Us Apart
Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method that uses a fine probe and controlled electrical current to destroy the hair follicle at its base. Once destroyed, a follicle cannot produce hair again. It is the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal.
Because hair grows in cycles, electrology is performed over a series of treatments. It does not rely on pigment, making it effective for all hair colors, all skin tones, and any area of the body, including areas laser cannot treat. At Smith Electrology, clients are guided through the process with clear expectations and ongoing care.
